Al-Qaeda’s North African commander, Abdelmalek Droukdel killed by French forces

On Wednesday, the leader of al-Qaeda’s North Africa affiliate, Abdelmalek Droukdel was gunned down by the French forces. Droukdel fought in Algeria’s civil war in the 1990s and played an important role in the Algerian insurgency movement in 2004. The Salafist Group for Call and Combat was transformed into al-Qaeda which came under the global terrorism network.
