New York legislature votes to scrap police discipline secrecy law

NY lawmakers have passed a bill to repeal a 40-year-old law that shields police disciplinary records from the public, a move intended to provide greater accountability. Police unions, meanwhile, have called the legislation an attack on police, saying the repeal of the law would enable criminal defense attorneys to cite old complaints against an officer in court to undermine the officer’s testimony
