Columbus statue in Richmond, VA toppled, set on fire and thrown in lake

Protesters at Byrd Park in Richmond tore down a statue of Christopher Columbus, draped it in a burning flag and threw it into a lake. There was no police presence in the park, but a police helicopter was seen circling the area after the statue was torn down. The statue was dedicated in Richmond, VA in December 1927, and had been the first statue of Christopher Columbus erected in the South.

Well that's useful. They also toppled a Lincoln statue, proving that they had no idea what they're doing.

Does anyone think that a lot of the men who have had statues erected for them over the past few hundred years were all respectful and kind towards women? I don't want to even bother checking. Because I know they all made a contribution to where we are today. And, while I'm at it, why ruin someone for what they did in college 40 years ago. I'm not the same person I was then, and I'm proud of that. Even misspeaks today should not be a career ender, if a person shows remorse and apologizes. Human beings deserve the chance to evolve mentally, too.

They are doing this to get people angry. They want to see retaliation. Don’t fall for it!
