The past few centuries' extremely steep growth of the human population coupled with industrialization has sharply degraded the resilience of the Earth's ecosystems for maintaining climatary homeostasis. This disruption to the balance of nature can cause a variety of catastrophic disturbances with the potential to end civilization and even bring human extinction along with most macroscopic species disappearing. It's just shocking how evil someone must be to target environmentalists with harassment or violence.
