NASCAR bans Confederate flag at all events and properties

NASCAR said Wednesday that it is banning the display of the Confederate flag at all of its events and properties, and also removing its rule mandating that racing team members stand for the national anthem. The announcement came two days after Darrell Wallace Jr., the first black driver in 50 years to win one of its top three national touring series, called on NASCAR to ban the flags outright.

I expect there to be some pushback from fans over this, possibly in the form of disobedience and boycotts.

In an updated press release, NASCAR has clarified the new rules: all cars must be painted various shades of black and no white lettering will be allowed. When asked if that may make it too difficult for fans to tell the cars apart during a race, a spokesman further clarified that henceforth there will no longer be winners as every driver will simply be declared a "winner" at the conclusion of the event.
