US HHS revokes protections against discrimination of transgender people

US Dept. of Health and Human Services finalized a revision Friday to regulations under the Affordable Care Act removing protections from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The old rule referred to ’one’s internal sense of gender, which may be male, female, neither, or a combination of male and female’ while the new rule has ’sex’ as ’male or female and as determined by biology.’

Excellent. This will help transgender people receive better care. It rolls back the interpretation of gender and sex to be defined by a person's biological sex. This helps healthcare workers to determine proper treatment quickly based on a person's biological makeup, which does affect a person's susceptibility and range of possible conditions and treatments.
