Trump confirms plan to cut troops in Germany

President Trump has confirmed plans to withdraw 9,500 American troops from bases in Germany, reducing their size to 25,000 in the country. He accused Germany of being ’delinquent’ in its payments to Nato, and said he would stick with the plan unless Berlin changed its course. NATO in 2014 set a target that each of its 30 members should spend 2% of GDP on defense. Most, including Germany, do not.

As a Brit I completely agree with this. The EU 27 have taken for granted the protection USA and UK have afforded them far too long to the extent that many among their membership have not funded their Armed Forces appropriately and are almost entirely incapable of contributing to their own safety. Expecting other countries to send their people off to die and pay for that privilege typifies the cynical EU approach.

Honestly, I'm fine with Germany (specifically) not spending that much on its military. The last couple of times they did, it got a little nuts.
