Facebook adds option for US users to turn off political ads

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said the social network will allow its users to turn off seeing political ads. This comes amid months of criticism faced for the platform’s policy that allows politicians to run political ads containing false information on its services. Users will be able to turn off political, electoral and social issue ads from political candidates, an update said.

Just drop Facebook then you don't have to worry about their censored content either.

Best thing to do is just turn off Facebook. Think of the free time, the reduced stress and the fact you won’t have to look at hundreds of millions of pages of people who lie endlessly about their perfect life.

I don't HATE that as an option, but what counts as political exactly? Are products with "green" marketing political because there's a debate about global warming? What about pregnancy centers? Are they political because there's a debate on abortion? Is it just campaign ads ONLY? Some campaign ads are about those issues, not so much the race itself. With how socially-obsessed politics have gotten, how on earth could they draw a line?

Ironically the people dumb enough to take political advice from FB are not smart enough to figure out how to turn off the ads.

There's a block button on Twitter but somehow people are still offended and want people they don't like banned, what makes Facebook think this is about what an individual wants to see? It's not about controlling what the authoritarians are interested in seeing, it's about them controlling what EVERYONE gets to see.

I don't think that political false information are the only false information on Facebook, so i believe it is better to focus first on our critical thinking and then try ti fix Facebook's policy on news in general.

Eh, don't really pay attention to the ads anyways. I really only keep Facebook to remember peoples' birthdays.
