NASA’s Discovery Program considering 2025 mission to Neptune’s moon Triton

Proposed mission Trident would launch probe to Neptune’s moon Triton in 2025 with a 13 day flyby in 2038. Using Jupiter’s position to Earth in 2025 presents a one in thirteen year opportunity to use the gas giant to slingshot the probe into the outer solar system. Triton is unique in that it possibly harbors oceans, active plumes, an energetic ionosphere, and could be a captured Kuiper Belt Object

Although only a flyby, considering all we learned during the New Horizons flyby of Pluto, the Trident mission sounds like an exciting chance to compare Triton to Kuiper Belt objects to see if that is truly where it originated.
