Trump says killing of Rayshard Brooks ’terrible,’ but ’you can’t resist’ officer

Trump on Wednesday called the killing of Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta a ’terrible situation,’ but appeared to have backed the cop by saying that ’you can’t resist a police officer.’The president spoke out hours after prosecutors brought murder charges against Garrett Rolfe who shot Brooks in the back last Friday. ’And, you know, if you have a disagreement you have to take it up after the fact.’

I agree with him. The guy was on probation for a list of crimes which include child abuse. He knew that if he was caught by police, especially during a DUI, he would go right back to prison. Its a shame he was killed, but he used a potentially (when you don't know how to use it) deadly weapon, which he stole after assaulting the officers.. This instance should not be used to advocate against police brutality.

He is correct. The cops clearly didn't show up wanting to shoot Brooks but his own inebriated actions led to his shooting. At worst there could have been a manslaughter charge but felony murder is a huge overreach.

People keep making a big deal of the fact that 2 of the shots from the officer returning fire hit him in the back rather than the front. This is entirely irrelevant you don’t get to neutralize police authority to defend themself by turning away after you shoot at them. This guy shot at police less than 2 seconds before being shot, of course it was a good shoot. The fact that the cop stopped after 3 shots, rather than unloading the mag, shows he properly reacted to the reduced threat as it occurred. You can not fault the officer for not having superhuman reaction time.
