Indians mock Xi Jinping with Winnie the Pooh after deadly border clash

As an anti-China sentiment grows in the country following the killing of 20 soldiers in clashes with Chinese military at the border, Indian social media users have mocked the Chinese president comparing him to Winnie the Pooh. The hashtag #WinniethePooh was used widely to criticize Xi Jinping. The comparison between Jinping and the bear gained global coverage in 2013 and is now censored in China.

Taunting Xi with 'Winnie the Pooh' jibes doesn't yield much to the actual issue to deal. Chinese media may do the same for Indian leadership. Also, boycott of Chinese goods has been called up in the past many years in India as well with nothing actually happening. India, inspite of being a democracy ranks very low (142nd) in press freedom and for incidents like border skirmishes, the press cannot investigate much about what actually is happening and is dependent on what the government agencies feed them. It may be difficult to know what's happening at the border when both sides make their own claims.
