US ex-marine Paul Whelan will not appeal Russian spying sentence

Lawyers of former US marine Whelan confirmed that their client had decided not to appeal against his 16-year jail sentence for spying in Russia. The lawyers said that Whelan thought appealing was pointless and he would rather focus his hope on a possible but unconfirmed prisoner swap between US &Russia. Whelan was arrested in Moscow in 2018 with a USB drive which is alleged to hold state secrets.
