New Haven removes Christopher Columbus statue, Philadelphia plans to follow

New Haven, CT removed its Christopher Columbus statue from a city park Wednesday, after a tense standoff between those that opposed its removal and protesters who have demanded the monument come down. The taller than 10-foot brass statue, first erected in 1892, was removed, placed on a truck and driven away. Later Wednesday, Philadelphia announced plans to remove one of its two Columbus statues.

I normally don't like statues coming down, but I'm very Okay with this one. His legend was over hyped to try and make things easier for Italian immigrants, back when they where a minority that was facing discrimination. Does that sound like a good reason, or am I just making excuses?
