Australia’s Qantas airline to cut 6,000 jobs due to pandemic

Australia’s Qantas is axing at least 20% of its workforce and grounding 100 planes for at least a year in a $10 billion cost-cutting blitz in response to the pandemic. The measure includes axing 6000 jobs among its 29,000 employees and keeping 15,000 more workers on extended furloughs. The airline will also immediately retire six Boeing 747 planes, six months ahead of schedule.
