Congo declares end of Ebola outbreak in east, second deadliest in history

The Congo on Thurs said that the second-largest Ebola outbreak is over after nearly two years and more than 2,200 deaths, even as a some cases continued elsewhere in the country. Despite effective vaccines and treatments that boosted survival rates when administered early, the outbreak dragged on as responders struggled to gain access to virus hotspots in the Congo’s restive eastern borderlands.
