House Democrats vote Friday to make Washington D.C. a state

Washington, D.C. is poised to take a step toward becoming the 51st state, as the House of Representatives is expected to approve its admission on Friday. The new state would be referred to as ’Washington, Douglass Commonwealth’, Douglass included for Maryland-born abolitionist Frederick Douglass. The bill is expected to pass the House, but be stalled in the Senate though.

Washington DC should not be it's own state. The better solution is just to cede the land where people live back to Virginia and leave government buildings in what is left of DC.
