Microsoft is closing all of its physical Microsoft Stores

In a LinkedIn post, the company said it is making ’a strategic change in our retail operations, including closing Microsoft Store physical locations.’ It made reference to the ongoing global pandemic and also stated that its ’hardware and software sales have continued to shift online,’ particularly in terms of digital products like Microsoft 365 and games from the Xbox Store.

And that’s just fine. They can re-open if they need to, sometime down the road. But, most of us (at least I assume so) do our shopping online. Every single electronic device I’ve ever bought after 1990 has been online. Okay, I agree that some brick and mortar shops need to exist, but many can be eliminated. After all, the overhead cost is much better withought brick and mortar stores, and it should free us up to use the additional funds on sales and marketing. You should be doing that anyway.

I made the decisions I made to buy surface devices by first using them in The Microsoft Store. Had I only seen the products online I likely wouldn't have purchased them. This company has lacked any creativity or innovation since Steve Ballmer left.
