Scientists discover large amounts of sunspots on the surface of Betelgeuse

Betelgeuse, a bright star that makes up part of the Orion constellation, has been observed progressively getting darker since October 2019. The red supergiant was thought to be on track for an imminent supernova, but has instead been proven to be dimming because of large amounts of sunspots on it’s surface. These sunspots are thought to cover some 70% of the stars surface.

It would certainly be awesome to see a supernova, but that 1 to 100,000 year window doesn't sound good.
