US pending home sales spike a record 44.3% in May

Pending home sales soared 44% in May after falling 22% in April, according to the National Association of Realtors, an indication that the housing market was starting to turn around from the pandemic-led slump. That is the largest monthly jump ever in the history of the survey, which dates to 2001. It beat expectations of a 15% gain, but the sales were still 5.1% lower compared with May 2019.
