Trump warns of defense bill veto over military base renaming amendment

President Trump signaled that he would veto the National Defense Authorization Act if it includes an amendment that would change the names of military bases that honor Confederate generals and soldiers. The amendment to the annual defense bill was spearheaded by Sen. Warren. Trump tweeted threatening the veto ’if the Elizabeth ’Pocahontas’ Warren Amendment’ was included in the bill.

I understand that the President is infuriated about renaming bases and all. But veto-ing a defense policy bill, especially when we're having to deal with threats from China, Russia, and Iran? Does not really sound like a good move to me. National interest should always assume primacy over everything else.

Presidents are temporary employees. It’s not a big deal.

Another point for my beloved line-item veto. The Constitution can be so inconvenient.
