Ukraine central bank chief abruptly resigns, citing political pressure

The governor of Ukraine’s central bank, Yakiv Smoliy, resigned Wednesday blaming ’systematic political pressure that denied fulfillment’ of his duties. If the resignation is accepted by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the decision could derail a $5B loan that Ukraine agreed last month with the IMF to fight an economic slump, which is conditional on the bank staying free of political meddling.
