Novartis pays $729 million to settle US kickback charges

Novartis AG agreed to pay more than $729 million to settle US government charges it paid illegal kickbacks — including fishing trips and lavish restaurant meals — to doctors and patients to boost drug sales. Most of the drugs prescribed by the doctors who received kickbacks have been used to treat high blood pressure and include Lotrel, Diovan, Exforge, Tekturna, Valturna and Tekamlo.
