SC rejects Texas Democrats’ request to speed up consideration of vote by mail

The Supreme Court has denied a request by Texas Democrats to fast-track a review of the party’s effort to expand mail-in voting. The state’s primary runoff is set for July 14. Texas only allows absentee ballots from elderly, disabled, incarcerated or traveling voters. Democrats have been seeking to expand the definition of ’disabled’ to include those who fear COVID-19 exposure.

We are in the middle of a pandemic, and Texas is being hit particularly hard by the virus right now. It would have made better sense for the Supreme Court to fast-track this hearing. Voting is a right, and it should be the responsibility of the administration in ensuring that each one of us can cast our vote in a *secure* manner. We aren't living in Yemen or Syria, for God's sake. I don't understand why we have to fear for our lives.
