US surpasses 50,000 daily coronavirus cases for the first time

The US notched more than 52,000 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours Wednesday, a new one-day record as infections surge around the country. The epicenter of the country’s epidemic has now moved from the Northeast to California, Arizona and New Mexico in the West along with Texas, Florida and Georgia. Texas again topped its previous record on Wednesday with 8,076 new cases.

How comes this sudden surge in Republican states? I thought Democratic states were worse hit initially. It's like the Republican states are now playing catch up. As per this article, the gap has narrowed significantly. Any thoughts?

My city (Wuhan) reached zero asymptomatic cases today. Everything is back to normal. I hope the same happens to America soon, it's sad to see people suffer like this. At least the deaths are going down in the U.S.
