Philippine president approves controversial anti-terror bill

Critics argue that the measures would be a tool against opponents, to stifle free speech and promote authoritarianism. Human Rights Watch deputy Asia director said Duterte had ’pushed Philippine democracy into an abyss’.

A dangerous move, this. Duterte anyways does not have a good reputation wrt human rights. He's also unconcerned about civilians being killed. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jun/28/philippines-duterte-tells-troops-fighting-isis-militants-not-to-worry-about-civilian-deaths
