Born in the NHS - Britain’s health service turns 72

As Britain celebrates the National Health Service’s 72nd birthday, its founding principles remain intact. It continues to be funded from general taxation and remains free at the point of use. On July 5, 1948, Nye Bevan strode into a Manchester hospital to launch a free health care service that has become the backbone of the United Kingdom.
