Developers of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline cancel project

Dominion Energy and Duke Energy, the developers of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, are pulling out of the multi-state natural gas project. The $8 billion project was designed to cross West Virginia and Virginia into North Carolina, and had gained an important victory over a critical permit at the Supreme Court last month.

What a shame. This is the problem with our regulatory environment: even if you manage to traverse the federal legal thicket over several years you can STILL be derailed by the lowest local official on top of county and state anti-industry luddites. And yet the whining environmentalists will screech and blame the power companies when their utility rates are raised because they're forced to use less reliable but "green" power sources.

So now Duke & Dominion will have to use more eco-friendly methods of transport: truck, train, and tanker. And the tankers may come from that environmental stalwart Russia.
