Thailand backs same sex unions

Thailand approved a draft bill which, although it avoids the term ’marriage’, allows legal registration of same-sex partnerships, right to jointly own property, adopt children and pass on inheritances. Civil partnerships are mandatory between individuals of at least 17 years old, and at least one of the pair must be a Thai citizen. The draft bill is yet to be passed by the Parliament to become law

This is a welcome step. Those unhappy with the decision should understand that people have the fundamental right to be with each other regardless of the gender they belong to, so long as they are consenting to it.
