Amazon joins Target and Walmart in removing Washington Redskins merchandise

Amazon said Wednesday it will no longer sell Washington Redskins merchandise on its website, joining major retailers such Walmart and Target as pressure grows on the NFL team to change its name. The name is currently being reviewed by the NFL team. Amazon has communicated the decision to its third-party sellers Wednesday, giving them 48 hours to review and remove any items flagged by the company.

Quote of why the team was named the Redskins: “So much confusion has been caused by our football team wearing the same name as the National League baseball club that a change appeared to be absolutely necessary”, Marshall told the Associated Press at the time. “The fact that we have in our head coach Lone Star Dietz, an Indian, together with several Indian players, has not, as may be suspected, inspired me to select the name Redskins.” Source: Only 9% of native Americans say they are offended by the team's name. 90% said it did not bother then.
