Roman Catholic Church bags at least $1.4B in coronavirus aid

The US Roman Catholic Church has emerged ’one of the largest beneficiaries of federal assistance during the pandemic’ raking in between $1.4B and $3.5B in aid. This was possible due to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) initiated by the government. Catholic dioceses, parishes and schools received at least 3,500 forgivable loans through the initiative.

I would like to note that even though it says "one of the largest benefactors" it was only 0.002 of the entire fund. It also seems as though the entire Catholic Church is being lumped together when its the individual small churches/offices who are applying. Their donations have dried up during covid too and they also have overheads and a risk of closing down.
