Amazon directive for employees to delete TikTok was a mistake

Amazon was in the news on Friday after it emailed employees telling them to remove the social media app TikTok from any phones that had company email accounts on them. After a few hours a Amazon spokesperson said that the emails had been sent out due to an error and the company currently has no plans to change their policies.

Businesses have a need to secure their IPs and other assets. Reversing something like this seems to go against best practices. I’ve worked for companies who would not allow any personal apps or the sort on a device that had access to company information. When Amazon came out asking employees to remove the app it made sense. This reversal does not. However I expect China had a bigger part in the reversal then the public mockery.
