Protests rock Russian far east with calls for Putin to resign

Thousands of people in Russia’s far east city of Khabarovsk protested Sunday the arrest of the region’s governor on suspicion of involvement in murders. The demonstration was much smaller than the gathering on Saturday when more than 35,000 people had demonstrated. Sergei Furgal, who defeated the candidate of Putin’s party, was arrested a day after the Russian president won the referendum vote.
