Trump mulled selling Puerto Rico, former aide says

The NYT, quoting former acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke, reported that President Trump mulled selling Puerto Rico as the territory struggled in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017. Duke said Trump’s initial response included, ’Can we outsource the electricity? Can we … sell the island? You know, or divest of that asset?’. The idea was ’never seriously considered’, she added.

"Trump approached the situation of a devastated Puerto Rico as a businessman would and asked about the option of “divesting” or “selling” the U.S. territory as it struggled in the aftermath of the 2017 hurricane." Really? Was the President honestly going to give away sovereign territory of ours? On one hand, we have India and China fighting over a piece of land which is uninhabited, and on the other, we have our President who is willing to give up sovereign land merely because 'it struggled in the aftermath of the 2017 hurricane' I mean, shouldn't he have thought that maybe now was the time to help Puerto Ricans even more?
