Millionaires urge govts to tax them more to help fund Covid-19 recovery

Dozens of Wealthy individuals including British screenwriter Curtis and Disney heiress Abigail Disney signed a letter urging govts to tax them more. The letter said that leaders must take the responsibility for raising the funds country needs and spending them fairly. It added ’We owe a huge debt to the people working on the front lines. And most essential workers are grossly underpaid.

That's not a bad idea as long as businesses don't start leaving the country as a side effect. You don't want to scare off your tax base. If Congress was halfway competent they could get away with introducing a Covid Recovery Tax. Unfortunately Congress is not even halfway competent and if this plan was to even be proposed in Congress it would be killed off by petty partisan bickering. Republicans would try and build in exemptions for whatever special interest happens to own each individual representative and the Democrats would do the same plus put something in about teaching intersectionality or giving illegal immigrants free healthcare and the right to vote.
