57 injured after fire breaks out on ship at US naval base

34 sailors and 23 civilians have been injured after an explosion caused a fire on board the USS Bonhomme Richard at Naval Base San Diego Sunday morning. The injured were taken to a hospital with ’non-life threatening’ injuries, mostly minor, said the US Navy. The blaze broke out shortly before 9 am as the ship was undergoing routine maintenance. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

"About 160 sailors and officers were on board, Raney said _ far fewer than the thousand typically on the ship when it’s on active duty." God forbid if there had been more people on board, who knows what must have happened! Glad nobody died. Hope those who suffered from injuries recover quickly.
