Closest images ever taken of the Sun reveal unexpected discovery

In what are the closest images ever taken of the sun, scientists found mini solar flares across its surface. The Solar Orbiter, a European Space Agency satellite, took the pictures when it came within 47M miles of the sun’s surface in mid-June. ’We do not really know what they are doing but there is speculation that they might play a role in coronal heating’, a scientist said of the ’campfires’.

The way 2020 has been going I half expected this story to say something along the lines of, "mass coronal ejection from the sun on its way to earth, all life to be wiped out!" and if it had said that I'd just hang my head and mutter "well played 2020, you win".
