US government executes 3rd federal inmate this week

The US government on Friday executed Dustin Lee Honken, the third federal inmate to receive the death penalty this week. Honken was sentenced to death in Oct 2005 for shooting and killing five people in July 1993 in an attempt to hide his multistate meth drug dealing operation. Earlier, Daniel Lewis Lee was executed Tuesday and Wesley Ira Purkey was executed Thursday, both in Terre Haute, Indiana.

every execution is more expensive than life in prison. every non violent offender in prison is more expensive than mandatory rehab and community service, and takes up space that could be used to keep these worse people out of society. the death penalty is not a deterrent. prison is not a deterrent. it just needlessly destroys lives, and far too frequently innocent ones. I don't know the number off the top of my head but proven innocent people have been executed in this country. it's time for criminal justice reform. maybe some of that money that goes to policing should be redirected to public defenders so that those charged can have more than ten minutes to prepare for a 20 year sentence case.
