Chinese genetics company BGI denies US human rights accusations

Chinese genetics company BGI (Beijing Genomics Institute) has denied wrongdoings after two of its subsidiaries were included in a US economic blacklist over allegations of conducting genetic analyses used to further the repression of Uighurs. ’BGI Group does not engage in unethical practices and does not provide gene technology for the surveillance of Uighurs’, a company statement said.

“BGI Group does not engage in unethical practices and does not provide gene technology for the surveillance of Uighurs. BGI Group does not condone and would never be involved in any human-rights abuses,” a company statement said on Tuesday. Well, that is what China says, too. 'We dont target Uighurs, there are no concentration camps, our country does not engage in human rights abuses'. Any reason as to why we should believe this company?
