Federal eviction moratorium ends this week, putting 12mn US tenants at risk

A federal moratorium that has protected millions of renters from eviction since late March expires Friday, leaving 12.3M people, or about 30% of all renters nationwide, at risk. The eviction ban applies to tenants who rent in homes owned by a homeowner with a federally backed mortgage. Once the moratorium lapses, landlords can give tenants 30 days’ notice and then begin filing eviction paperwork.
