Christopher Columbus statue taken down at Chicago park

A statue of Christopher Columbus in Chicago’s Grant Park was taken down on Fri., a week after protesters trying to topple the monument of the Italian explorer clashed with police. Crews used a large crane to remove the statue from its base as a small crowd gathered to watch. The crowd cheered and passing cars honked as the statue came down. It is however unclear where the statue would now be taken.

Although this is peak vandalism, I was wondering about the enthusiasm that people had over the toppling of Saddam Hussein's statue in Iraq. Wasn't that also a relic of history? And just like Columbus has a murky history with genocides and cruelty, so did Saddam. How are we justifying the toppling of one and not the other?
