Fake stories posted on real news sites by hackers to ’discredit NATO’

According to a warning by a cyber-security firm, in order to stir up anti-NATO sentiments, fake stories have been posted on real news sites by hackers. The campaign, nicknamed ’ghostwriter’ has been going on since 2017. The people behind the attack are not yet known but the false stories can reportedly be seen aligned with Russian security interests.

"hackers" is such a weird term to use for people who gained access through proper channels. Almost like anyone, for any reason, can become a "jounalist" and just post what ever they like.

In other news the media acknowledges fake news as being a credible threat. Trump was right yet again as anyone can post garbage nonsense to generate money.

How could they tell the difference between the real news stories and the fake news stories? I legitimately curious.
