NBA season re-opens as players kneel in protest during anthem

NBA players and coaches from four teams took a knee during the national anthem Thursday in the first set of games since the league paused its season over the pandemic. The players also wore black ’BLM’ shirts during the anthem. On some game jerseys, players’ names were replaced with messages such as ’Equality,’ ’I am a man,’ and ’Ally’. Even the game referees took a knee during the pregame scene.

The players who kneeled in protest aren't necessarily oppressed themselves. They decided to take a stand against oppression faced by those who are oppressed. You don't need to be oppressed yourself in order to support a movement or a cause. It is important to understand this critical difference and not mock the criticism being mounted against police brutalities. Constructive debate and discussion is what will lead the way. Name calling never helped.
