John Hume, who worked to end Northern Ireland violence, dies

John Hume, a Northern Irish politician, who won the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize for his pivotal role in ending decades of violence in the British province, has died at the age of 83. Hume shared the Nobel with David Trimble after the pair helped forge the 1998 Good Friday peace agreement. It helped end three decades of bloody strife between the Catholic nationalist community and Protestant unionists.

This man is an important historical figure. He set a successful example of achieving peace through non violence. We need more of that today.
