Judge decries shooting that killed son, injured husband

A federal judge from New Jersey, whose son was killed and husband seriously injured in a shooting attack last month, has spoken about the incident. Judge Salas has now called for more privacy protections for federal judges. Authorities say Roy Den Hollander, a lawyer came to Salas’ door and opened fire, killing her 20-year-old son. Hollander had spent years pursuing ’antifeminist’ lawsuits.

"She noted that serving as judge involves "making tough calls" that sometimes leave people angry and upset. But she said judges should not have to "live in fear for our lives" because personal information, such as home addresses, can be easily obtained by anyone seeking to harm them or their families." Do judges not have some sort of security already? I might be ill-informed here. If not, then why? And if they do, then we need to seriously question as to how this incident happened in the first place. I mean, there are a lot of countries where judges are given protection by federal or state law enforcement agencies.

Sounds more like the shooter had a mental illness that went unrecognized and fixated on the judge, given that he had a "dossier" on her family. We will never be able to prevent tragedies like this from happening and the best solution is self-defense.
