India imposes curfew in Kashmir ahead of revocation anniversary

Curfew has been imposed in Indian-administered Kashmir in anticipation of protests ahead of 5 August - the day the government stripped the region of its semi-autonomy. Officials say the curfew is meant to prevent violence by groups planning to observe 5 August as ’black day’. The curfew will be enforced Tuesday and Wednesday, and only people with official pass will be able to move around.

The Hindu Nationalist Government of India took away the autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir, and imposed a brutal military clampdown, restricted internet services, and a seemingly never ending curfew was also put in place. Kashmir, which is the only Muslim majority state of India, has long been viewed with suspicion by a Hindu majority India. On 5th August 2020, it'll be a year since India in essence did a North Korea in Kashmir. And to make matters worse, India will be 'celebrating' this lockdown. Scores of WhatsApp groups have been formed to tell citizens about the 'development' which has been ushered into Kashmir in the last one year. All lies. Multiple data sets have revealed that the region has in fact lost billions of dollars worth of revenue. The Government of India has built a new Kashmir on the foundation of lies, and it is deeply concerning to see hardly anyone in the West even bothered about it. For all our talking about Uighurs in China, rest assured, if we did not have an issue with China, none of us would have given a damn about the Uighurs. Human rights? Who cares. Kashmir is literally bleeding and none of us care. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/oct/23/people-are-panicked-kashmir-curfew-takes-toll-mental-health#:~:text=According%20to%20a%202015%20survey,of%20post%2Dtraumatic%20stress%20disorder. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/indias-internet-shutdown-in-kashmir-is-now-the-longest-ever-in-a-democracy/2019/12/15/bb0693ea-1dfc-11ea-977a-15a6710ed6da_story.html https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/kashmir-sees-more-than-2-4-billion-losses-since-lockdown-group-1629413-2019-12-18
