US Senate Votes Unanimously to Ban TikTok from government issued devices

The US Senate unanimously approved a bill on August 6th banning federal employees from using the social media app TikTok on government-issued devices due to concerns that TikToks’ parent company ’ByteDance’, a Chinese owned company, could potentially share user data with the Chinese government. Under Chinese law, companies have an obligation to cooperate with the country’s intelligence work.

Why is this even needed? Social media apps like it should never have been allowed on government issued devices to begin with. The fact that they need to specifically make a vote like this speaks a lot more to the terrible IT and device management of the government, at least it does to me.
