US adds 1.76mn jobs in July as hiring slows amid fresh covid-19 outbreak

The surge in employment growth in the late spring gave way in July to sharp slowdown in hiring as the US added just 1.76mn jobs, highlighting the fragile state an economic recovery with the Covid-19 still running widespread. The official unemployment rate fell for the third month in a row to 10.2% from 11.1%. However the increase in new jobs was slightly above the 1.68mn forecast.

Good. We won't be able to fully recover without a vaccine but if we can get the unemployment rate back down to single digits in the August report then that will be substantial progress.
