Applicants for a chaplain’s job at a Maryland county jail had to sign a statement affirming that they are Christians, a Muslim man claimed in a federal lawsuit Thursday accusing the county and a contractor of religious discrimination. Well that’s insane. Religious faith groups often provide chaplains from thier faith group to minister to peopel of that faith who are in jail. Imagine a catholic church being forced to hire a ajewish Rabbi to provide sacramental services to catholic inmates or an Islamic Center being requirred to hire a Protestant clergy to minister to the Muslim inmates! This group contracts with the jail and the ones who work for them arre not state employees. Insane.
