An estimated 1,000 tons of oil has spilled from a ship after it ran aground a coral reef about a mile off Mauritius on the 25th of July. Huge efforts have been made in order to avoid further spillage so as to stop the oil from polluting the island’s pristine coastline. The cracks in the ship’s hull continue to raise fears that the remaining fuel in the ship might gush into the sea.
A small island nation such as mauritius could be largely dependent on cleaner energy sources.
