Seattle City Council approves cutting 100 police positions, budget

Seattle’s council has approved a reduction of the budget of the city’s police dept. of less than 1%, and shrinking of the force by up to 100 officers — an action supported by the demonstrators but opposed by the mayor and police chief. The reduction would also include a cut in the wages of police department command staff. More dramatic changes to public safety services are promised next year.

Doesn't reducing the force by 100 mean that you will have lesser officers who are more likely to be overworked and ready to jump the gun in a crisis situation? To those who support these demonstrations - I honestly wish to know, how and why has any plan of reformation for the cops, better training, diversity in law enforcement, all of this gone for a toss?
